Collaboration in Schools

Students need to work in pairs and groups in order to develop their emotional quotient. The article, Powerful Learning: Studies Show Deep Understanding Derives from Collaborative Methods says, “Similarly, studies also show the widespread benefits of cooperative learning, in which small teams of students use a variety of activities to more deeply understand a subject. Each member is responsible not only for learning what is taught but also for helping his or her teammates learn, so the group becomes a supportive learning environment.” In addition, working in pairs and groups will help the students in gaining skills in teamwork, hearing/thinking about others ideas and opinions, responsibility, and sharing. All of these skills are life skills that go beyond school and used for the rest of their lives, including when they go to get jobs.
